what do you guys think this NFL cent would grade as wit ICCS or CCCS?
and would ICCS comment on the "surprises" this coin is cleverly hiding?
thanks everyone

Looks, AT to me and, if it did get graded with the bit of wear on the reverse crown, AU at best

Would either grade it as MS? They should. This coin has no real wear that I can see so logically it would have to be MS grade. ICCS is especially hard on NL coins, but I think this one should get an MS-60+ designation.

ShaftA9a - What you think is wear on the reverse crown is just a weak strike on that side. The first wear your would normally see on this coin would be on the Obverse: on the laurels and wraparound braid in the rear bun on the queens head, where there is no wear at all.

There is no wear on this coin. It has a few little marks, but also has much doubling and a beautiful rainbow toning. The E in CENT has been very heavily doubled and the other doublings make this coin very attractive and a keeper for sure.

Nice coin. Thanks for sharing!

thank you for your comments.
I would like to add this, strictly MhO:
the original underlying N's and E's in OnE and CENT appear to be much smaller than the added re-punches over them.
and, if the date was / is MD, would it not be on all 4 numbers? the offset on the 8 and 3 is pretty large and solid.
am I looking at this right?

Isn't that some wear on the right side of the crown? Maybe also in the hair at the back of Victoria's head? Aside from that, agreed that this is a beautiful coin....

Silver101 - I believe those are just evidence of a weak strike.

Now the question is:

I've been told (by people who would know) to avoid ICCS for copper in particular. Particularly as regards red/brown calls, they are not all that accurate. PCGS - it has to be worth it given the scarcity of the coin. If the coin is worth $40 USD then there's not much point going there as it's going to cost $65 USD to get graded.
