I found two outstanding 'pocket piece' lowballs at a local coin show yesterday ... presented here for your grading opinions ....

1976 Eisenhower Dollar

I would appreciate if one of the Ike series experts can advise if this is the Type I or Type II reverse. I know the difference is in the relief and style of the perimeter legends ... but do not have enough experience with this series to say for sure.

Grade opinions?

How in the heck did someone manage to wear down an Ike dollar that badly?

Those things barely circulated..

Look at the first U's in E PlURibus and Unum. They should be fairly lined up on Ty. 1.

It was most likely what we know as a 'pocket piece' ... a favored coin that was carried daily in someone's pocket and the wear occurs slowly over time.

Many CCF members have a pocket piece.

I can only imagine the stories the original owner (and coin!) could tell after how ever many years it took to wear this coin down.

BTW ... I'm still confused on Type I versus Type II ... any definitive opinions out there?

I think this one is a FR-2. The Kennedy on the other hand is a PO-01! The Ike is still a rarity in this condition.
