Teens accused of burglarizing Janesville coin shop http://www.gazettextra.com/20160516...le_coin_shopQuote: JANESVILLE—Three Janesville teens arrested early Monday are accused of burglarizing a downtown coin shop, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.
The arrests came after a clerk at Casey's General Store, 1542 Center Ave., told an officer conducting a business check that the three young men in his store had just paid for merchandise with some "shiny" coins. Glad they got caught, good instincts by the clerk to realize that something wasn't right with the transaction.

Didn't know Janesville had a coin shop. Are we talking about Wisconsin? Yes very glad they were caught.

This is unfortunate, but I'm glad they got caught. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if drugs were behind this- there have been an increasing number of heroin-related robberies in this part of King county (WA) recently. One mountain biking enthusiast near me had over $10,000 worth of bikes stolen a couple months ago.
Coincidentally, I used to know someone who lived in Janesville.

Good that they got caught.
I am always amazed how stupid most criminals are.
"Let's break into a coin shop and steal old coins" dumb
"Let's go spend the coins for stupid stuff" very dumb

Drugs, perhaps? More than likely, the dummies bought cigarettes or sweets. Hopefully, the time spent in detention will cause them to rethink their paths in life. Accountability does work ... for some.

That's awful. As a trumpet player myself, I can imagine what it would be like. That reminds me of something else- I know a guy who also played trumpet in high school (70s-80s). His school was broken into and the thieves stole most of the band instruments. It didn't go so badly for him, though- after insurance paid for a new trumpet, the police found the instruments that had been stolen so he got to keep both.
