Looks to me like a Japanese 50 Sen from the Taisho era (1922-1926). Should be silver. Don't know the year but I can find out.

EDIT

I think it's 1925.

Thanks so much UltraRant! Didn't know I had a silver coin in my foreign coin collection. Cool!

Ultrarant is correct. The characters on the reverse of the coin state: #20116;#21313;#37666; (50 Sec). On the obverse is #22823;#26085;#26412;(Empire of Japan/Japanese Empire) and the year is #22823;#27491;14 - #12383;#12356;#12375;#12423;#12358;14 -Daishou 14 or 1925.

Pretty nifty coin!
