A bank toke,n similar to, although better quality than mine shown below was listed on ebay at over $300. It not sell (of course?) I had assume mine was a $10 coin at best and had put it aside to give to a young'un if I could find one interested. Am I missing something?

The token in your original post above matches LC-5A3 and was minted in 1838 according to my 1988 Charlton Catalog of Canadian Colonial Tokens. The wreath on the reverse below DU has a thin line joining the two leaves and, according to Charlton, all such examples have a reeded edge. In Very Fine, the old Charlton catalog values it at $10.00 and my 2016 Krause lists it (Tn4) at $12.50. However, examples which have an "open wreath" (lacking that thin line) are characterized as LC-5A1 if they have a plain edge or LC-5A2 if they have a reeded edge. Krause only mentions there are three varieties, but Charlton identifies them as more scarce than the A3 variety, with the LC-5A2 valued approximately 4 times greater and LC-5A1 labeled as "Rare" suggesting a much higher value.

Hope this helps.

You have to remember two things both sellers and buyers on ebay, don't know squat and over price and over pay because it is old and they don't know any better!

Alas? You don't know what real wealth is -- you have the real wealth.
