Happened upon this at a Swap Meet for less than one dollar. Naturally another one I couldn't pass up. Am I correct in thinking that at the current exchange rate this is worth more than five dollars?

Let's say that it's about 5.10 dollar.

Anyway, you're in 'luck': 1968 is the first year where silver disappeared from the Swiss 5 Frank coins, just to make a short reappearance in 1969, before finally disappearing in 1970.

You're correct about the exchange rate. But you won't have much of a chance to actually "get your $5 worth" for it unless you actually go to Switzerland, except maybe from a coin dealer or from someone planning to travel there soon. The moneychangers don't take foreign coins.

The numismatic pricing does seem to be less than the face value (about $5.10 U.S. as of today)....

You also see that here in my local area with some U.K. issues, particularly the current 50 pence, which can be often found in the "bargain" bin for, like, 25¢.

So, the question come down to whether a Credit Suisse branch here in the U.S. would exchange it or not.

I've discovered that with Canadian money, my bank will not take coins, even the $2 ones, but any currency, including older $1 notes, can be redeemed.
