I hope they sell very few of these coins since I bought one. Sure, it is a gimmick, but that was also said of the glass ladybug when it first came out. These gimmick coins are the ones that seem to hold their value. Sure, I'd love new innovative designs, but let's be realilistic. With the more than 225 designs currently available from the last year only at the RCM, it's impossible to be original anymore. Love this coin or hate it, it stands out. I'd bet this one holds its value better than 95% of the other coins they sell this year.

I bought it and glad I did, but it certainly is not even in my top 10 favourite coins. It was a struggle to find some coin I wanted, to maintain my mc status. I can't help but wonder what "innovative designs" are being worked on as I write this.

I saw the coin on the Coin Show and said why? I just don't get the concept on a coin! I also couldn't fathom all the emphasis on pop culture coins. The Aussies already came out with Star Trek coins.
I just went on the mint site and it reminded me why I gave up! I just got too overwhelmed with all these pop culture coins that don't reflect Canada. Including a vast assortment of coins from other mints, that failed to sell in their home country. Again why?

I know exactly what you mean. I did a eye roll when I looked under the hodgepodge display of what's to be found in the "New Release" tab as well. It seems obvious all the mint high level execs of the Commonwealth countries get together with Disney, Marvel and other holders of TM fantasy characters in order to churn these things out in an organized fashion, with a commitment to cross-sell to maximize full unloading of residual mintages.

Okay, RCM, maybe you didn't like my idea for the first invisible coin (even though the only cost would be the "seemingly empty" display box). But here's my latest idea: Pokemon Go coins! Yes, you can mint colorized coins depicting the various Pokemon characters; imbed a tracking device into each coin; and hide them throughout the country. When a customer buys a coin, they will receive a code via a phone app, which will allow them to go out and locate the Pokemon coin that they purchased. Also, have your advertising department stress the phrase "GOTTA CATCH THEM ALL!"

Please! No Pokemon, power rangers, smurfs, or any other junk. Enough is enough. I thought the superman coins in 2013 were kind of cool but now that there's a couple dozen, that all lost their appeal.

I'm certain RCM would like the Pokemon Go idea for its revenue potential but somebody would have to buy the coins. Does everything have to have a price tag associated to it in the name of fun? As it is now it gets young people out and about for free and the company is rewarded by the stock sky rocketing in value. That's the best possible outcome in my opinion.

That wouldn't gain many long term collectors. I'd rather see Canadian musicians on coins than cartoons and gimmicks

Back in May when this one was released, it generated a certain amount of excitement by some who thought was going to be a hot item, a sure sellout. RCM indicates it's still only 79% sold so it's not as popular as was expected. But now 3 months later, for those who were eager to buy it because it's indeed rather unique, a conversation piece, I'd be curious --- is it as wowing, entertaining to play as it was hoped to be? Stories?

Then again, They will all end up on the secondary market with prices jacked up 300% and none of the 'true' fans could afford them....

Don't judge me but not a fan of the hip. lol. But I'd vote them first in the series. Cross collectables are awesome. It would be a successful series I'm sure. 3-4 bands per decade would be nice. Each decade in its own box as to make it easier to buy just a few. I'd hope they make a really great design and leave the gimmicks for the clamshell that plays the bands hit song when opened. Only 3/4 of this post is serious. Lol

Heck, add $10 to the price to add flashing stage lights on to the coin. *0% serious this time.

There is one on ebay now in an NGC holder. Apparently only two were graded before NGC changed their grading policy on these coins. Pretty neat to see, seeing that NGC rejected 100 of these coins from MCM as 'ineligible type'
