This is quite the switch from the overdone theme of polar bears! Is everyone happy now? LOL!
Right out the door of the igloo, go for a swim in the ocean under the northern lights, don't get stung by the (tropical) jelly fish. Only in Canada might this be possible.
It's not yet been released to the masses, about 3 more days if there's any left by then, mintage 4000, issue price $189.95. According to the CCC info, it celebrates "otherworldly life" in the deep waters off Canada's west coast. It's described as GID backlit, with multiple layers of GID overprint. Includes an ultraviolet flashlight.
(Canadian_coins the 2nd of the 150th series is Quebec, birds eye view of a kayak on the river, quite attractive in my opinion)
It is a nice looking piece of art but it pushes the envelope of a coin IMO. I'm not much in favour of coins that don't indicate country of issue, denomination etc on the reverse.
In any case, the rep advance notice e-mail received this AM indicates that it's sold out at the Mint but I'm sure it will show up on the Shopping Channel sooner or later.
not a few coins have a "full art" on the reverse - Two Loons - for example. But Two Loons is a true art and a "dude", while Coral Reef is a photo sticker and "hot".
