Looks like there is a die clash on the obverse.

Although my pictures aren't that great, you can see a bit of the clash on the bridge of the queen's nose. There is also an unmistakable imprint of a vine traveling up in front of the queen's forehead.

Does this add any extra value to the coin?

It's been certified by ICCS as EF40.

thanks

It would have been better if had not been photographed under plastic.

I cannot make up my mind if the mark over 'C' in 'CANADA' is in the plastic, or on the coin.

There is an obvious indent in the field in front of the image of Victoria, but it looks suspiciously like it may have happened post mint.

For examples of die clash, refer to Google Images:
'obvious die clash', where the clash die images are raised, not indented into the coin.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

After looking at the website, it definitely looks like a die clash.

Any point in sending it to CCCS so they can state it on the flip or hard slab?
Does the clash add any premium?

This is a common die clash I have seen on at least 15 coins in the same place. I have never seen it as an attribute on a certification on any coin---I believe they only attribute on well known varieties----not errors. Also I have never seen a premium for a clash error being asked---because I think clashes occur on every series that exist. Premiums are reserved for spectacular errors.

By the way, that is a spectacular coin you have---is it a specimen or an MS?

Thanks Lambecolin.

No, it's a lowly EF40...so says ICCS ;)
But it is a beaut!

I don't think it's a clash.
The edges of the reverse leaves just aren't in that location.
Die damage is due to some other cause.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I have a 20 cent 1858 with similar marks posted here if it helps, definitely does not fit a die clash.

I agree with DBM---not a die clash, but a damaged die. The shape has always bothered me but I have now changed my mind.
