Forgive me if this topic has been discussed but over the last month or two I've sold some coins and in two cases when the buyer didn't pay within two days it seems that ebay opened a case against them! I've never heard of this. Did I miss something or do I need to adjust some setting. Of course when this happens the buyer isn't too please (which I can understand)so I have to try to explain to them that it was ebay, not me and that would be the last course of action I would take! Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Steve

If I'm correct I belive you can set it up so that the buyer HAVE to pay within a certain amount of time?

Not 100% sure, but I always put in the conditions that payment is due within 24 hours. If that expires I send them a message and wait 12 hours before terminating the transaction and re list it. Fortunately that hasnt happened yet.

you can't open a case for non payment for 4 days from the date the item is sold. you can set ebay to send the notice automatically using the assistant, but regardless it still can't be sent until 4 days have passed..

If I'm not mistaken, a case can be opened for non payment as early as 2 days. I would check your settings and make sure that you don't have the "assistant" set to 48 hrs. I agree 48 hrs is too soon to bang a buyer with failing to pay. Usually a friendly reminder does the trick. Some people just enjoy waiting a few days to pay.

Thanks guys! As it turned out the unpaid item assistant was turned on which signaled ebay to open a case after two days. I know I didn't turn it on....heck, I could barely find it! Just chalk it up to one of those ebay mysteries.

ebay is not opening a case against anyone. Your unpaid item assistant has initiated the case on your behalf automatically.
