Quote: One possibility to get around the low participation of a CC-only thread would be a CC + S thread ("Coins of the Old West"), running from 1854 through 1893, 1899, etc. I do like this. It would be a first time thread as well. Quote: (or any cut-off year well before 1955, to avoid picking up too many modern types). My thought, end it at 1909 to allow the Indian Head cent and Lincoln transition. Would be a nice conclusion and keep us firmly in the Classic realm.

Quote: Would there be years where no coins would be posted ... 1870? The 1870-CC dollar is pretty common, although not real cheap these days (I have one from decades ago). Starting in 1873-CC, you have the Trade dollars. 1871-CC and 1872-CC might be tough, as would be 1889-CC.

1907 (curved 7) 20 Centavos Mods note: Struck in New Orleans! The history of coins from the New Orleans mint would not be complete without an example of the only coin this mint struck for a foreign government. The mint wasn't minting silver dollars any longer and losing relevance, so had the capacity to "freelance" to help keep the presses going and their workers employed. The dies were prepared by La Casa de Moneda de Mexico with the M mintmark (w/o even the superscript o!), but with a curved 7 to distinguish the coins from those struck in Mexico City. Mintage-wise, they outdid the Mexicans by several million. 1907 was the only year of this arrangement, but this may have allowed the NOLA mint to operate into 1909.

Interesting coin. I wasn't aware that New Orleans struck coins for other countries.
