I am looking to buy this coin but want to make sure it looks original. What are your thoughts? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by Jsalsa123 08/06/2016 9:14 pm

Looks good to me. Some spots, but quite common.

What color does this look? Will those spots stop it from getting graded? What grade might you suspect?

I doubt if the carbon spots would prevent it from being assigned a clean grade of somewhere around 62/63 R&B.
The color looks typical red and brown.
It is not worth slabbing in my opinion.

The only reason I would slab it is because it is the Die 2 DDO from 1955. But if it would get a MS 62 63 RB I think I will purchase.

If that is what you are talking about then I'd want to see a close up on the In God We Trust. I think most of us thought you were referring to a normal 1955.

Thx for the clarification on the variety. Your original pics did not show it and you didn't mention it either.

The amount of spotting makes me think cleaned. Nice DDO though.

I don't know whether this is a particularly desirable variety but obviously it is overshadowed by the "big" DDO for this year. The coin you posted has large and distracting carbon spots that would make it unappealing I think to most collectors. You would be lucky to get an MS-62 RB grade IMO. Unless it's a screaming bargain I would be looking for a more attractive example. FYI, here is a PCGS-graded MS-63 RB example of the big DDO (FS-101). This one sold for $3500 on Heritage earlier this year.

I'd pick the coin up if the price were right. I've got a few of them and this variety is tougher to find than the "Big One." Speaking of the Big One, here's mine:

The spots do drop the price because if someone were looking to buy one, it would probably be a deal breaker.
In lower grades the price drops a bit
F12 30.00 VF20 55.00 EF40 90.00
I would probably wait to get a better coin to submit.
