Thanks, that now added, here's the current list, now with color-coding for tokens (that's the reason why the "common" designation is now green).

In the meantime, an image of the Suriname 75000 gulden coin appeared at Numista. Mintage of 750 pieces. No wonder it took a while to find.

Note about the German states: this list does not list all possible German States that issued a certain denomination, just one per currency. Other German States coins with the listed denominations usually exist.

Nothing new on my part, but it appears the 1/600 piastre from Tonkin has disappeared from the list.

IIRC, it's basically that there's been no proof that it actually has 1/600 on it for a long time (and since the legend's in Chinese, nobody was quite sure what it did say).

For what it's worth, the legend does have a 6 in it, but since I don't know any Chinese, I'm not willing to say what the rest of it means. It might, in fact, say 1/600, or it might just as well be "6 for a cent" or whatever.

That's correct.

Anyway, who would have expected that something was still hiding among the multitude of German States issues?
Probably everyone.

Based on images in Krause, the state of Oldenburg issued undated triple-denominated coins that read:
1/4 OLDENB MARCK ZU 8 GROT OD IEV 5 3/4 STV (5-3/4 stuber)
1/2 OLDENB MARCK ZU XVI GROT OD IEVER 11 1/2 STV (11-1/2 stuber)
OLDENB MARCK ZU XXXII GROOT OD IEV 23 STV (23 stuber)

The first two are new entries, the third one is the first modern example of the denomination.

Quote:
The first two are new entries, the third one is the first modern example of the denomination.
And you can probably list the last one under 32 too (which already has two entries, admittedly).

Still no 64 though...

In the meantime, while looking for some more Oldenburg types, I've found the hilarious siege issues of Landau: 1 livre 1 sou, 2 livres 2 sous, 4 livres 4 sous (1702), and 1/2 florin 2 kreuzer (!!), 1 florin 4 kreuzer and 2 florin 8 kreuzer (1713). All have pics in Krause (and in loads of other places).

The first three are, if I didn't miscount, 1-1/20, 2-1/10 (both new) and 4-1/5 (previously only NCLT).
No idea how many kreuzers in a florin, so can't comment on the second set, but it's sure to come up to something crazy.

EDIT: looks like 1 florin = 60 kreuzer, which would make them 8/15, 1-1/15, and 2-2/15 florins respectively. All new, and all crazy. (And we just missed yet another 64 opportunity.)

Thank you, first series of Landau siege coins (livre/sou) added.

As for the second one, are we absolutely sure what the florin/kreuzer exchange rate was? Sure it was 1:60 in the Austrian Empire in the 19th century, but was it the same at that time in that area? I mean it's not the most obvious pair of currencies and Krause says nothing about it.

I've found a Word document that says "In Germany and nearby countries there were multiple currencies such as 60 kreuzer to the Gulden" referring to the 17th century.

Then, a book which says "One Florin equalled sixty Kreuzer or 240 Pfennige" referring to early 19th century Bavaria.

Another book, this time from 1833 quotes the same rate for Austria and Frankfurt (it also has maths puzzles if you want to brush up your 19th century currency conversion skills... ).

Is this enough to be sure?

Picked up two additions to this list yesterday.
Iran 5000 Dinar (mine was 1320/1902 and turned out to be a good fake, but I still learned a bit)
1907 Danish West Indies- 40 Cents. (2 francs)
This coin is a one year type and only 25,000 were minted. (The 40 cent was also issued in 1905 with a different ruler, and was also a one year type with 38,000 minted.) I am very happy to have obtained one. Unfortunately, it was used as a jewelry piece.
Nudity alert, 3 exposed tops on this one.
Here she is:

We should probably add the Turkish round numbers beyond 2000 as well (I forgot which ones they were, but definitely 5000 lira).

BTW, anyone knows where to find a picture of Venetian Cyprus countermarked 19 soldi?

I accidentally encountered a mention of their denominational countermark series of the early 16th century (featuring about a dozen assorted countermarked denominations from 2 to 20 soldi), and managed to find pictures of most of the smaller numbers, but not 19 (or 18, but that's a lot more common anyway).

The place where I found the mention cited it to "Countermarks on Cypriot and Other Coins During the Venetian Period in Cyprus", A.G.Pitsillides, 1977, but I couldn't find (a readable version of) that article anywhere online either.

Sweden has 19th century 1/3 and 2/3 skilling coins, and I wonder if the speciedaler you rolled them in with is meant to reference that denomination instead.

Sorry if we already discussed this, but I think the Byzantine empire deserved a couple honorable mentions for being one of the first to place a clear mark of value on the reformed follis from 498-1034. Plenty of denominations seem unusual to us today.

1 follis = 40 nummi
Denominations in Greek numerals, or rarely Roman numerals:

1 nummus (Monogram)
2 nummi (B)
4 Nummi (IIII) (Issued by Vandals in Carthage)
5 nummi (E)
8 nummi (H)
10 nummi (I)
12 nummi (IB)
16 nummi (IS)
20 nummi (K, XX)
30 nummi (XXX)
40 nummi (M, XXXX)

We already have some examples, but the Vandals made non-countermarked 21 and 42 nummi coins:

2taol, unfortunately so many countries minted coins denominated half or quarter that those cannot be considered odd. We marked those as common. Please note that it doesn't matter how the denomination is written (even if it says "5/10" it's still a half, and thus common).

Finn235, new examples that significantly differ from the ones we already have are always welcome. Vandals 21 & 42, Byzantine Empire 40, 30, 16, 8 & 4 have now been added. Thank you
