A collector would likely leave behind some other evidence of their hobby; books, invoices from dealers and insurance paperwork come to mind.

Not necessarily. I don't collect coins of this magnitude, but I have my share of $100+ coins. Most of then aren't even fully attributed outside of my own head, let alone catalogued with a paper trail. If I died in a car crash tomorrow, my wife would probably have to come on here and post a similar thread just to make sense of what is a collection in my head.
Yes, I know I need to get to work on fixing that....
At any rate, I am enjoying seeing these coins! Even cleaned, these are worth many thousands of dollars.
Out of curiosity, are there any "normal" coins in there, e.g. ones you recognize as not being worth much?

Congratulations, you've got a lot of work to do ! From the one album presented, it's plain this is a valuable collection that will be in demand by collectors and dealers seeking stock or to fill want lists. The first thing you need to do is to create an inventory of the collection, every coin, as well as a photograph pair for each and every coin like you have shown us here. You have two options for sale. First, send a disk of photos to some auction houses and begin discussions. Second, try and sell individual coins yourself, on ebay or similar. DO NOT take it to a dealer and try to sell it as a unit unless that's what you want to do. Your return will be much reduced in a unitary sale. Do not let anything out of your hands without it being inventoried and photographed.

Thank you all for the advice and words of wisdom. I realize I have a lot of work to do but there's no rush and I'm seriously loving every minute of it!! Background: The Priest that discovered this collection barely knew Father Q. Unfortunately, Father Q died in 1985. My friend did not know that Father Q collected coins. I personally think Father Q acquired many of these coins from a family/friend. I think he then added many of the more modern coins since there are a number of modern coins ranging up to 1980 in date. I would like to know more about Father Q.

You might want to inquire about the storage of the entire collection and insurance while it is being evaluated.

I am not getting tired of seeing these coins. If it were me ... I would be starting a log Track Country Year Denomination Silve/gold content Then start checking auctions Heritage ebayMany of the common silver and gold coins, might trade near their bullion value. I would separate, or at least identify the better date, more rare coins. Depending on the condition of the albums, I would consider moving them to 2x2's, to better preserve them and be able to put information on the holders. Putting the information into a spreadsheet from the start will help tract the collection.

Shame be upon you Moe145! Now I feel a strong desire to add some Venetian gold to my collection. I was fine up until 5 minutes ago when I didn't even know it existed but now ..... Seriously a collection like this might benefit from a short consultation with a world coin dealer/expert, to sort the common pieces from the uncommon. I wonder if Heritage would be willing to assist? Too bad about the condition, a lot of these coins appear cleaned. Thanks for the interesting thread!

The handwriting on all the labels is similar enough to make me think those were all written by the same person.
I am not an expert in handwriting but the letters and numbers look more alike than not.
The mystery .....and coins.... it's almost too exciting.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
