I sell coins and records on ebay. Today I received the below message from the buyer.

"Are your items insured? This package was lost in the mail. There is currently an open investigation as a couple of my packages were missing today. Please let me know if you have insurance and if you need the report number to file a claim.
Best Regards
Marcelia" "last name removed"

Before I ask her for the report number I would apreciate any advice you can give me. Or input on my response.

Thanks Brian

Did you mail the items with a tracking number?
If not ebay will make you refund the payment if the package is "Lost".

Did you mail the item with a tracking number that is verifiable on-line? If you mailed it without any tracking you will lose ANY item not received complaint that is filed against you.

Once it shows "delivered" it is the receiving customer's responsibility to retrieve their mail and packages. How can you, as the Seller, be held responsible for securing the Buyer's mail box? You mailed it and the post office delivered it.

Bottom line is you better have a tracking number available.

Tracking shows delivered "front porch or door"

Anyone know of a good euphemistic way of saying it's all on you

If it shows delivery, you are covered, so long as the $ amount of the item is below the amount which requires signature delivery

I think that's right - so what is the value here?
Rest in Peace

Tell her that you were informed that the package was delivered and she should call the post office to see where they left it on her porch. Perhaps it got tucked behind a planter or some other piece of porch furniture.

It's a soundtrack vinyl record for the movie grease. I paid a dollar at the flea market and sold it to her for 18. She didn't even make a best offer. Sold it in less than a week.

Sounds good for you but not relevant here. If tracking shows delivered (for an $18 item) then forget about it. Tell the buyer the tracking shows delivered and you are sorry but there's nothing more you can do. The buyer can contact ebay and ask what course of action to take.

Unless you mailed her more than one package that was delivered today, this statement makes me think her email could be genuine.
