Hello, what do you think about this coin?
It has many irregularities, pay attention on the upper left castle and the lions tails. Note on the obverse, a soldering mark and mounting signals, probably it was a buttom or ex jewelry coin.

Weight 26.6 grams
Diameter 40 mm
Thickness about 2 mm
I've not done specific gravity test yet, but it is not magnetic alloy.

This topic has been discussed a few times. The coin is one of the broken castle types. The use of that broken punch is found on numerous dies covering may years. In my opinion far too many years for one broken punch to have been used, unless it was in the punch set of a counterfeiter.

I own several broken castle coins - mine are all counterfeits. There are many of these types that have been encapsulated by TPGs. Therefore there is some dispute regarding the variety. Some of the numerous dates may be genuine one in particular that I am aware of.

Your example shows several repunched elements. The Lions and castles are doubled.

Please provide the SG when possible.

Bob - you remember the MNA Convention when I showed you a broken castle in a major auction lot viewing and if memory serves me right also in a TPG in high grade with a high three digit estimate. OUCH!

Yes and I also remember the response I got when I suggested it was likely a forgery.

Thanks swamperbob, I understand what you say.
The SG of this coin is 10.34, which indicates a good silver alloy but obviously not mean it is true.

As noted, this coin was mounted as a jewel or button. Could be something done by a jeweler in the 19th century exclusively for that use?

Anyway, despite the poor condition and doubts, it is a piece that I like to have it in my collection and I wanted to share with you.

Here I have some photos more,
