Did some CRH this morning through some penny rolls from Achieva bank and found something I wasn't expecting. Its my first steel penny I've found CRH. I did not know you can find them in rolls anymore. This definitely came from someone's collection comparing it to my previous one I found when I was younger and its completely rusted over. Though I hope its not one of those remade ones I've seen others post. Its got a nice die crack near the bottom going almost rim to rim.

Nice find!

You don't see too many of those in circulation these days, but once in a while one does pop up.

It might have been the die that eventually had a large Cud in that area?

Thanks! This was the other one I found about 25 years ago. Its a 1943 S and its still fading away slowly. I kept it with my other strange coinage finds such as my 1942 farthing with an "A" counterstamp on the reverse; I suspect it's a counterfeit.

coop, it does not look to me like the crack in the subject coin matches up with the Cud in the coin you posted.

Looking again, I agree. The starting point is different. So it would have to be a different die. Cuds do expand, but they don't fix themselves. Different die.
