I just learned there are 2 types of 1956 Franklins. So I checked on my 1956 proof set and this looks like Type 2 to me. Am I correct? Is there a premium value for Type 2 Proof?

Thank you for any input. Bill

Thank you for the quick reply. I appreciate the information. Hoped the premium was for Type 2. Still a beautiful coin. Regards, Bill

Could MS type coins of this nature ever exhibit these type of type one and two attributes?

And if so, would there be any additional premium assigned?

Hard to tell from the images if they are proof coins or business strike coins. Most look like MS coins. Makes we wonder if this is just a die polishing issue that created these?

Yes, some proof dies were used for business strikes and can carry a premium, similar to the Type B reverse Washington quarters. The Type 1 eagle has four indistinct feathers while the Type 2 eagle has three strong feathers. Type 1 is the intended business strike design while the Type 2 design is intended for proofs 1956-63.

Here is my updated information:
1956-Franklin-Type-2-Proof?
The 1958 and 1959 business strike coins (no Denver ones) we affected. The Type 1 is the normal coins with for feather tips in the left wing. The Type 2 are the re-used proof dies for the reverse dies on the halves. (similar as "Bio" mentioned for the quarter reverses)
