Quote: Thank you Allen, and I`m keeping it, perhaps I will slab it, in any case, I would consider this thread done for me, you guys want to roll me up, and use me for toilet paper, when all I wanted to do was share this with the forum.
Not me. I had questions, you posted better photos, I felt like that was adequate.
I am actually glad you are keeping it. The coin has a story and this thread will remain to tell it.
I agree with you ace_ftw. I was going to say the same thing. I think it's cool the RCM does this. I would be ecstatic if the US Mint did this during the Statehood Quarters to now programs. I'd have a nice collection of eagle quarters by now.
Quote: so just like back in 1999 and 2000 when they did all those crazy quarters, they still made caribous, only for the mint sets. so it is entirely possible that a regular polar bear toonie will be made next year.
You guys missed that it's the first variety of 2017 - the doubled forehead and nose toonie. What an odd story. 2017 escapes from the mint and ends up in a park in the grass.
I've re-read this thread several times and still can't figure this out. I thought of putting up a poll to get people's anonymous opinions but would not want to risk further hurting the OP's feelings on the matter. I've noticed that youtube video is down now.
Has anyone reached any plausible conclusion on this story?
Not back yet, might have been a test token that accidentally made its way out of the mint. If one person can sneak gold out with Vaseline, he must not be the only one! Hopefully it doesn't smell too bad when it's slabbed!
He said in the comments on his vid that he had sent it to cccs and it had been there for a long time and he contacted them and they told him they were contacting the RCM, so maybe it dwas confiscated, maybe it ended up being really bad based on advice provided.
As for him not coming back I can't blame him, he got shamed and called a liar. He also removed the listing that he did have bids on because of the negative reaction to his discovery here, even though he has a great ebay account, nothing that would imply he's up to anything, other than just loving the hobby.
I have no reason to believe it's not legit based on pictures.
The owner of CCCS is smart enough not to have the coin seized, he has slabbed many weird and unusual RCM coins that later had a plausible explanation, my guess is what does he put on the label for this coin if the RCM does produce a normal polar bear 2017 toonies, it's a 2.00 coin in a 30.00 holder, even as I believe it's a test piece it garners very little value unless the RCM does not produce a polar bear design 17 toonie then this coin is cool.
If I was the OP, I would have dumped the coin on ebay as fast as possible.
Once January 1, 2017 rolls around, its just worth $2. With the way the RCM milks every penny out of collectors, of course a regular Toonie is going to be minted in sets. lol
