I'm not the owner of this coin, but I did send it into CCCS on his behalf. I can assure you it is a real coin. I sent it into CCCS 3-4 months ago now and I have been in contact with them several times to give me an update. They are apparently waiting on the response from the RCM about it. I recently requested that they just send it back to me as the owner, as well as myself and a 3rd person, really wants to get all our coins back this year!

Crazy CCCS! Would have been nice to see a publishing in the coin news about the 2017 toonie! And good to hear from you xwl! Hopefully you get a pleasant surprise and the toonie will be slabbed!

There is a fine line in pushing the RCM for info on this coin, if indeed genuine as we all or most believe. now the magic question on how it escaped, CCCS has good contacts with the RCM regarding these types of weird coins until he get's a reasonable answer. it's hard to slab. still a very interesting coin.

Why do I suspect RCM will delay responding until it's 2017?

If these 2017 toonie images are true, what some here had predicted earlier on this thread has come to pass, and a 2017 damaged toonie found in the grass is now worth $2. If it were me, I'd be livid with CCCS for it's apparent procrastination. http://talismancoins.com/search.php...d=&shipping=

CCCS could still tag it retroactively to show found in 2016. The value is in the story. I don't think that value will change whether it was certified before the new year or after, unless it turns out to be a counterfeit or test design etc.

I agree wildflower. Time was of the essence. Now with the release of those sets it turned into a waste of money sending it. Terrible.
If koolkat is reading this, I am sorry for this. Not ok.

Doesn't this depend on whether the mint releases a regular toonie? Correct me if I'm wrong, but all I recall seeing is the commemorative design for 2017. Edit - nevermind, I see the regular one is in the set. Had to click around to find it.

He had great offer on it on ebay, chose to remove it for a larger payday, what can CCCS LABEL it as what with out some kind of RCM acknowledgements, seems now it's a good story but worth 2 bucks

Quote:....what can CCCS LABEL it as what with out some kind of RCM acknowledgements Perhaps a simplistic view, but does CCCS contact RCM to determine the authenticity of each and every coin that passes through? If it meets the composition, size, weight and all the other standards including the anti-counterfeit emblem, what more than the opinion of a TPG that a coin is genuine can there be? That CCCS was willing to become involved but had no means to follow through other than attempt to involve RCM, that really was not helpful.

Most good TPG needs some kind bases for their label variety, in this cases the owner probably wanted CCCS to grade it as a test piece or a 2017 regular toonie found in August or when ever, my guess CCCS does not have enough info to make the judgement yet, but now it seems not to matter

If CCCS is unsure about the authenticity of error coins then they will not grade the coin or comment on it. Louis should have returned it long ago.

This coin could still turn out to be quite valuable, especially if the Mint decides to issue all circulation coinage for 2017 with double dates to commemorate Canada's 150th birthday. Or, I suppose it's also possible that the Mint will not issue a regular polar bear toonie in 2017 given it's Canada's 150th birthday.
