Canada67,
It appears that the regular polar bear is in fact available in some sets as seen in a link posted earlier by WildflowerAB.

Redzapsid, you are correct. I missed that when I viewed the link WildflowerAB provided.

Quote: Or, I suppose it's also possible that the Mint will not issue a regular polar bear toonie in 2017 given it's Canada's 150th birthday. There is kinda a precedent with this. In 1967, there were NO regular issue coins, just the commemoratives. However, as we have seen in the not so distant past, when commemoratives were issued to circulation, think the 1999/2000 quarters. The regular issues were still available but via collector sets. If that will happen this time remains to be seen.

TheForce,
These have already been confirmed as being in sets with regular designs.

Redzapsid, I just saw the image of a gift set with a special loonie. Will there actually be a regular loonie in an uncirculated set?

I'll wait for it to come to my local PO. Shipping and taxes came to $14.95 same as the price of the set.

Poor guy...should have just unloaded it on ebay. My memory is fuzzy, but wasn't the coin going for $200+ before it was yanked from ebay? Not only will there be thousands of toonies in the UNC sets...there will be an unlimited amount of toonies struck to demand for the gift sets. :/

So did "the" twoonie ever make its way back to owners hands?

Here's an update for you all. I received the coin back last week and have already shipped it back to the owner of the coin. I no longer have it in my possession. I wish I took better pictures before sending it back, but I did take one right after I picked it up from the post office.

Thanks for the update! I like how it notes that it was certified in 2016 when it's a 2017 coin. I often wonder if this will have any significant premium?

If it seems to be a regular 2017 polar bear toonie design being produced for this year, it's a 2.00 coin in a 30.00 holder

but at least was in fact released and found before it should have ever been circulated..the op deserves a tip of the hat..perhaps a write up in coin news, would help the value . now that it has been proved to be exactly as described.
