Very nice example, numisartworks. And to the CCF.

Thank you! It's nice to meet another active medal collector. I edited my post to include the SOM insert.

I was going to start a thread called something like MEDALS UNDER $25, where we could showcase inexpensive finds. But, as a newbie that's best left for the mods to decide. :-)

But I enjoy playing a treasure hunt with myself, looking to see what I can find for under $25, and I find some surprisingly interesting things.

Here's the latest:

This medal was struck for Pacific University, where I received my Masters in Teaching, so I was especially excited by this find.

I can find almost no information on it, but I know there are similar college medals like this. I doubt this is 1949, this feels 60s-80s to me. It is MACO, but I can find nothing on the engraver.

Still, it's pretty and it was $15.

Numisartworks: It is a pretty medal and you got it for a great price.
The Pacific University Centennial Medallion is catalogued as MACO # 1949-011. It was later adapted for a Distinguished Service medal which was catalogued as MACO # 1967-019. The credited artist (engraver / sculptor ? ) is Rene Paul Chambellan.
This info is from the MACO Archive curated by the American Numismatic Society; it is on Page 20 of 22 of the pdf found here: https://macoarchives.wordpress.com/...940-1949.pdf

@captbilly
A million thanks! I was unaware of that resource--I appreciate it so much.

So, it is 1949! Really interesting. I'm very appreciative of this resource.

See-- my first day here and I'm the beneficiary of great information. I feel like I've found my people! :-)

BTW, in the spirit of contributing, here's info on RP Chambellan, sculptor.

Why under $ 25? What is this criterion?

@WHC

Thank you for your welcoming me to this forum with this question.

The criteria of under $25 is a reminder to me that there are many beautiful medals available that are not expensive (take the NYU HOF series, for example). As a new collector, I can learn, I can make mistakes, without a large outlay of capital. I look for things that are artistically meaningful to me that I feel are within my budget.
