Samuel Finley Breese Morse - C. Paul Jennewein Designer/Sculptor  American Samuel Finley Breese Morse (1791 - 1872) was an inventor and painter. He is most famous for his invention of the electronic alphabet ("dots and dashes") that bears his name - Morse Code; Morse was assisted by Alfred Vail who actually made multiple improvements to Morse's base system.

William Thomas Green Morton - Abram Belskie Designer/Sculptor  Morton (1819-1868) was an American dentist who is credited with driving the first public demonstration of the effectiveness of anesthesia in surgery - Harvard Medical School, 1846.

Thank you, commems! Crawford Long is also a worthy candidate for more than a stamp and statue. After the number of surgeries and dental procedures I've endured, I shudder to think of what people went through before anesthesia.
