If you look at the coin photography site by Mark Goodman
http://coinimaging.com/photography.html
and you see that small black halogen desk lamp he has pictured, well I had that same exact lamp about 8 years ago. I just used it for viewing coins with my loupe. It was a great little lamp. I can't remember where I got it though, maybe K-mart and wonder if they still sell these. I'd like to set 2 of these lamps up. I've tried moving the camera further away from the coin to get better lighting but I lose too much detail.

Excellent article, Merc. Learning to do "macro" with coins so I'd better save this article.

Ok, here's my first try photographing thru a slab. Went to K-mart and I couldn't find my old halogen lamp but found 2 20watt halogens that are awesome. The goosenecks let me get much closer to the lens and the coin than my other 40 watt desk lamps. I'm posting these pics to the grading forum next. Then I will take a pic of a nice unc Roosevelt dime and post it next.
