Nothing is stopping the RCM to do a colored version but they probably wont since the first one wasn't as popular as the gold plated. IMO

I do not think that a colour version will happen. The second big coin coloured series did not do very well. You can still get them at regular prices I place my bet that there will be no coloured version of this set. There probably will be a big coin series late next year after this new one is over but it will be of something different. Just my Two Cents. The gold plated coins are way nicer.

Don't forget the two big coins, and this series was probably commissioned by the same company

They might do a commemorative 5oz coin set next year. That would be a nice set. 1935,1939,1949,1958,1964, and the already minted 1967. Sounds good to me.

Quote:This is the Big Coin Series for 150th anniversary. RCM will not churn out another for this anniversary. It's the 50th anniversary of the 1967 series. It might be likely to soon see Big Coin of the 150th anniversary series that will be released in 2017, considering previous Big Coin series also featured current circulation coin.

That would have to be considered a big success wouldn't it? No reason not to keep milking it....especially if the guy commissioning them continues to assume most of the risk. IMO, it's a no brainer for the Mint to do another series on those terms. It may be that CC&C might not want to do another but I suspect even they made a ton of money from the last painted set.

Some more 1967-2017 SD coins appeared on ebay. And as expected, the asking price started to decline towards reasonable values (but still not enough) Item ID = 302091716650Asking price - CAD 1500 with Best Offer I expect this coin to be offered at CAD 900. Here, is the best example where it goes with the time: Big Loonie offered for CAD 700 ($150 on top of issue) - and this was first in series, popular piece. Item ID = 191973186733

The big coin coloured series lasted way longer on RCM site than the gold plated series. Also, all dealers offered these big coloured coins at issue price. Gatewest, Canada Post, the Coin Shoppe, London Coin Center etc... All had these for sale at issue price for quite awhile. Go check ebay listings for the big coin coloured series. Most selling for issue or less. I know because I have this coloured big coin series and I follow price trends.

That's exactly the point, it's so tempting for the RCM to do a colour version of this 67 series and will harm the original series, one can only have so many collectors with a budget that can handle these sets and to add a cheap colour version will create last years result. Also why would anyone pay 1000.00 or more for the dollar when you can buy the entire set for 3500.00

Quote:Why one would collect only the dollar in this series defies most logic it's part of a rather expensive set either you like them all or not, the only reason I'm waiting is the good chance the greed would force the RCM to immediately do a colour version. I am almost sure one of the large coin supply places has a 5 oz. holder for about 5 to 10 bucks I only bought the 50 Cents and the 5 cents Beaver from the gold plated Big Coin Set. Lots of people did not buy the complete set either because of the expense or they only liked certain coins. Of the six coins, the gold plated 50 Cents has done the best on ebay. Quote: Also why would anyone pay 1000.00 or more for the dollar when you can buy the entire set for 3500.00 Because you don't want to pay $3500? Its a big difference between $3500 and $1000 and some people just can't afford to buy the complete set.

@ MoneyPenny You are right. The fifty cent coin is doing the best on ebay.

There's something about the elusive 50 cent circulation coin that appeals to many including myself and I'm not sure why. Personally I'd like to start seeing them in change again. But that's dreaming. It has a more authoritative design than the traditional animals, whether it be this series or the traditional circulation series.

Quote: Lots of people did not buy the complete set either because of the expense or they only liked certain coins. I'm sure that's why the RCM is offering singles as well as sets. I bought just the first SD Goose coin because I like it and wanted to add it to my collection. The others did not rate a "10" on my personal rating scale, so I will not spend money on them just because they're part of a set. I have the Loonie and 50 cent coins from the previous gilded set because those are the only ones I really like. I don't like the coloured version. Others might, and that's their choice. Each to his/her own. One method of collecting is not better than the other. It's just a matter of personal taste.

I really like the idea of this set, would have liked The goose. Though, it's maddening that the mint chose to use that finish in the fields.
The imagery on the original set is amazing, but what makes it even more so is the large clean open fields.
The finish they applied turned me off, they should be mirror fields to accent Colville's amazing imagery.
view Colville's art, the beauty of it is not the subject matter alone, but the openness of the background.
I can't believe they cluttered his work with this finish in the fields!! maybe I'm being dramatic, but it's an abomination to the original set.

The RCM trys to over design classic coins a simple proof finish would have been cool.
