Doug: The next time that you are up this way on your cycle, I'll let you look at my '59 hoard to see if I can fill some holes. As I've said before, I don't collect by die tracking, just for nice visible varieties. I think that some that I may call 'vanilla" may be some that you seek. B

Thanks Bill for the generous offer.
p.s. fyi. I drove my HT2 Hummer to Toronto. And what a mess.
A week earlier I drove from SW Florida to NW Pennsylvania to visit my brother. Upon arrival I mentioned I would be attending a coin show in Toronto in a week. My brother inquired if I had my passport with me. Nope, I never had one; I though all I needed is a valid DL. He said since 9/11, passports are required. I immediately went to the post office to apply for one. They said I needed to provide a copy of my birth certificate. Ugh...That is locked in a safety deposit box in Naples, Florida. I had to drive to Erie, Pa. and obtain a duplicate. The next day I returned to the post office and completed the forms and then was informed it would take 6-8 weeks to arrive. I needed it in 6 days. They provided a telephone number of an outfit in DC which would walk the paper work through and that I should get it in 6 days. I called the number and paid a $450.00 fee for their service. I made the trip to Toronto in time.
That was an unexpected dent in my coin budget, but I still picked up some goodies. These were a Copper Company of Upper Canada Pattern in Aluminum and an 1894 ICCS MS-65 large Cent. The 1894 was in an older holder and unattributed as a 'fat' 4 variety. I suspect this to be the finest known of this type. But, the best was finally meeting some of you face-to-face.

I thought that you said then, when we all met and talked, that you had ridden your bike up. Oh well, the mind gets foggy sometimes. B

Of the few that remain for Doug to acquire, I am also missing all of his except for the F2 and the J3a.
I'm also missing another ~100 vanillas that he does have..so I've got a very long way to go.

Doug, on your required list the third one down should it be 251 with the E27 and the 252 would have the E27a?
Cheers Bill

I find it a big enough challenge to find all the DP9's in the back of the 2011 book and other re punched 9's that never made the book because they weren't as a dramatic re punch of the 9 and not enough room to add them all as limited space was provided in the book at the time. I'm still missing a few in the book but I set my grade to try and collect VF-30 to MS coins I prefer AU and better EF is ok if its not scratched up and rim dings. I'm still missing the coins on pages 282, 284, 289, 290. I have several Haxby #'s but only from coins I had or purchased on ebay in lot bids or auctions I don't really target them as I do follow them and collect as they come along. Great reading this post thanks for sharing I would show some of mine but bought and moved in a new house last spring and still haven't set up my scanner up yet but working on it maybe soon. I think Brad had a nice picture of the J3a on his dp59 web page when it was still available to view

Maybe Gene has a few (or a count) that he could share with us here.. I really would like to get "a count" on the J3a..any takers on that request..?

I have one J3a that I got recently. I don't have any photos of it yet, but I will try to take some and post them here in the next couple of days.

Here is my list of what I am missing from the Haxby catalogue...
G41 41 131 141 142 152 153 212 244 254 275 291 311 312 31a3 331 332 351 371 373 441 451 45a4 45c2 46a4 482 52a1 571 573 622 632 641 651 712 761 77a2 77a4
With the one's that I'm missing and what colonialtokens has this might give you a rough guess of what could be more scarce!

Thanks again..and yes I'm also missing almost all that are on MG's list..
I've got such a long way to go..
...but...We can now start to get a good indication as to the really scarce ones out there..and there might be quite a few..
Dr Haxby must also have a good feel as to the tough ones out there.. Maybe he will be able to share his vast knowledge with us here..?

Viper: I don't collect Haxby #'s, but I did loan 1000 or so to him befopre he wrote the study. He marked numbers on the envelopes before he returned them. If the #'s are the same, then I have 651, 671, 482, 351, & 291. Tell me in email what to look for for each and I'll see if they are the same.
Addendum: The numbers that viper gave me don't match the numbers on the coin envelopes, so I guess it was a false alarm.
