Hi Everyone,

Would appreciate it if this large silver medallion could be identified as well as what the possible value is.

It weighs 174.0 grams and the diameter is 95 mm.
The silver content is at least .925 (sterling).

Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike.

It appears to be similar to a Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 6 Thaler, at least one side does. The 1956/57 on the other side strongly suggests a replica. Replicas were commonly made in Germany, but all are normally clearly marked with a modern date and fineness so that there should be no confusion. I cannot find the image of the original/ the other side in Krause, but I do not believe that Krause is comprehensive in this area.

Assuming it is a replica, it has some premium over the silver content.

How did you determine the silver content?

Used a Niton thermal analyser gun on it.
The gun showed the silver content to be higher than 99%.

Regards,
Mike.
