moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 10/08/2016 11:01 am The lack of sharp detail is a concern. Most noticeable, to me, on the stars which don't look anything like what you would normally see. Perhaps a photo of the obverse might help too. Report this Post to the Staff

paralyse Bedrock of the Community United States 12057 Posts	Posted 10/08/2016 11:27 pm By the end of the SLQ run (28-30) the master hub for Denver SLQ's was plain worn out, with 1929-D being known in particular for some depressingly poorly struck coins when compared to San Fran & Philly. In addition, this set of dies was very worn and the coin was struck unevenly as well (look at the rims!) My guess would be a combination of Machine Doubling (note the doubled profile of the eagle in general) and re-engraving of the feathers. This is a very late die state. Combine a worn-out master hub with worn-out dies, die misalignment, and what looks like Strike Doubling and possibly some re-engraving on the dies, and this is probably what you'd end up with.
