I think one reason why this set is doing poorly and many of us are cancelling is that the mint didn't use the original design of the big cent. That's my opinion.

I like the set. The reason people cancelling is because they can get else where for 5% and for those in the west coast, they also save on the PST so that make for 12% discount.

Or because there was already a 5 coin penny set that wasn't $710 and was released before the downward NCLT spiral with releases twice/month.

@Lostwords, The only reason I did not cancel my RCM order was to maintain my MC status. I am pretty close to the MC tier I want so almost all my next coin orders will be from dealers outside BC. Besides this current MC exclusive, every coin is available from dealers beside the RCM.

I think it will by weeks before all sets have been sold, and months before they end up the the hands of collectors that plan on keeping them with their boxes and boxes of other coins for the long term. Had this been released in 2012, they all would be long gone.

I cancelled 2 sets of 2017 Penny Set from RCM because I want to take advantage of Colonial Acres' 5% discount + no tax. 5% discount + 7%PST = CAD$85 difference per set I save $170 by cancelling RCM's and ordering from Colonial Acres. Easy math...........

I kept my orders. One with RCM and the other with CC&C. Hoping CC&C gives me the opportunity to buy the second 2 ounce renewed silver dollar like they did last year because I was VIP. Still VIP with them.

And I like this set. I missed out on the year of farewell to the penny:))))
I am not going to cancel just because flippers have.

Agreed New1954, I bought this set cause I like it! I have no intentions on flipping this one or buying doubles.

I ended up ordering this set from cc&c. Why the mint allows people to people to hoard these items and cancel without penalty is bonkers.
I would have much preferred to order directly from the mint vs opening a new account with a new dealer.
Sigh..

CC&C is very generous to its customers. Do not regret opening the account.

In a floating frame, great idea Onecad! I hope some day that RCM will make commemorative pennies in copper*. Sure, silver justifies a higher price but even with rose gold plating, it just doesn't come close to the original colour of a glimmering glowing red copper penny. * 98% copper and a little tin and zinc

Very nice composition, Onecad
But if you want it to be as close as possible to the 2017 Penny Set, you have choose not the 2011 round Penny, but similar to 1982 - multysided.
Correct me if I wrong, but started to think, that the Penny didn't suffer from the lack of attention. The NCLT version, close to original exists in:
1908-1998 Sets (Proof and Antique) 1935 - 2010 Set 1911 - 2011 Set and 2012 - silver version (+2012 Silver non Circulated set)
So...speaking honestly, the 2017 brought the big canvas only, which highlights the beauty of design. There are pros and cons...like in everything.

Quote: Or because there was already a 5 coin penny set that wasn't $710 Bingo... and the price of silver was higher in 2012... This is just a cash-grab gimmick by the Royal Canadian Mint, and I really don't like it. What is next... a 10 year legacy of the penny for $2100 in 2022?
