Im guessing broadstruck, struck in collar as there is a rim still on the "flattened part", either that or some sort of very thin obstruction. ps... thedollarman please contact me Edited by Wizard1 10/13/2016 10:17 pm

your coin appears to not be broad struck, it was struck in collar as it has perfect round and diameter, as well as finning on the obverse opposite to the strike through from added thickness..this would not happen with a broad struck since there would be no collar holding in the metal flow. wonderful coin and appears to be struck through maybe a partial die cap? it's a shame the coin has been cleaned but the error is impressive. wonderful coin!
contacted you.

I would suspect that this coin was partially struck through a split planchet, which would have created both your coin, and a elliptical "football" uniface clip. The reverse images you see in the struck-through portions are 'ghosts' of metal flowing into the reverse die.
Looks like it could also be 1970...

Quote: Maybe a partial brockage? Nope. Brockages are formed from die caps, and are mirror image, sharp details and incuse. Counter brockages are not in mirror image, but details are just as sharp. When you see blurred elements like this, it is either struck through a later stage cap, or split planchet. Quote: It looks like a blank planchet was in the way of the strike. Partly true. But a blank planchet of normal thickness will create a indent strike, with no details from the hammer die - instead, you get an orange peel texture in the indent.

I instantly thought of a struck through foreign object, but that rim throws me off. Definitely a unique error tho!
