The football coin is really quite nice (especially the au) but there's nothing obviously special about it. No real connection with the CFL (and it's clearly not an NFL ball) or any other league. It doesn't seem to be commemorating anything so what is the significance? Is it just an exercise in creating a new shape?

The gold bear is over the top. Reminds me of the golden idol in the Ten Commandments movie for some reason. It's nice art but it's a long way from a coin IMO.
Rest in Peace

The basketball convex coin also had no link to the NBA. If the football coin had a link to the CFL or NFL they would have to get a licensing agreement with them. Could be expensive when it comes to the NFL.

Why would a basketball coin be linked to a football league? lol.

The basketball coin was commemorating the 125th anniversary of the invention of basketball by James Naismith of Almonte, On.

The Mint could have had the CFL logo for a song. They've done it before many times.....even a sp. ed. silver dollar and circ dollar featuring the Grey Cup. I only noted the NFL because someone mentioned Brady but it is clearly not an NFL ball (note the stripes), maybe could pass for NCAA.

My only point was that is doesn't seem to have any association with anything. Just a coin in the shape of a football. Makes no sense to me. Maybe it's the world's first oval domed coin?

Oops, I meant the NBA.

I guess they wanted a generic football. They already had a basketball curved coin, so they reasoned, why not a football coin? Maybe next is a soccer coin.

By the way, it was me that made the comment about Tom Brady. Only a joke that I guess fell flat. Lol

lol yes I think the Mint tried to make the same joke in their marketing..."The coin is curved (convex) to resemble an inflated football, ready for play". Like they would intentionally make a coin resembling an uninflated football lol. Guess they are not Pats fans

And it is "the Mint's FIRST..."

The $2500 Ultra High Relief 1 kilo "Canadian Coin Collection" is very intruiging, created to appear like a pile of Cdn coins. Sadly the price is beyond my self-emposed price limit for NCLT but otherwise it's an exact match to my definition of excellence in artistic numismatics.

Even funnier is the sales pitch for the Underwater Life coin:
"UNIQUE! Our second ever 3D water droplet coin!"

Second ever?

Awww, come on...who writes this stuff? lol

The RCM posted coins online for the public

The Coin Shoppe and CA as well.

Expensive Bear statue-coin available for issue, good idea, not badly created and the display good, but....not the coin and reminds gold piece of po**

2 Oz Maple Leaf coin - good one. Traditional ML on the bigger canvas. Do not see it popular though, so better to wait or skip.

But where 2016 Parliament Library Silver Dollar, that people could load it? Mint doesn't care about profits for simple people

ADDED:
Tomorrow (Wednesday) RCM will go live and unveil the new coins for 2017.
On the Facebook.
Should I have Facebook account to see live videos on the Facebook?

The library coin was never intended for public release, it's a mc reward, the surprise coin is the convex space coin another who cares.

The 2oz Parliament is not a monthly release. It's one of 4 Select Coins designed for MC members. RCM says Gold and Platinum members are given 45-days to buy.
http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/custo....WBizvHTOehA

Meanwhile the outer world doesn't know such a thing exists.

Adding - the topic has been discussed on another thread but advance ordering based on priority to levels appears to only be applicable to Advance Access/Ordering of monthly releases.

Otherwise RCM leaves the door open for availability of Select Coins to both Gold and Platinum members at the same time, as they are not monthly releases.

No wonder Reps can't figure out what they're supposed to be doing, RCM makes its rules and policies on the fly.

Gatewest Coins seem to have moved away from the 5% VIP discount for all new releases. Of the 25 new releases only 8 have the 5% off discount. I wonder why.

Colonial Acres still have the 5% discount but you need to be a VIP member.
