@New1954
Would those who want the coins still get them if there were no dealers, would we just go to the mint direct?
Who is spending and creating awareness of the coins (marketing), the Mint or the dealers, when was the last time you received a coin flyer in the mail from a dealer?
I think if I was running the mint I might want to consider only selling direct.

I get emails from most dealers in Canada and mints around the world. Dealers are willing to give you better discounts on RCM products. RCM is not the only game in town.

I've only been collecting for a few years but I don't see the dealer generating the demand. Other then of course buying up the popular coins and giving collectors no choice but to buy from them. In the end the number desiring the coin doesn't change, only the path from the mint to the collector.

And this same fiasco occured last year --- RCM had an entire year to figure out how to get it right.

My issue with these buying coins from some dealers is they might be cherry picking the best inventory, then selling to consumers ms69 stock and slabbing the premium ms70. Cc&c and Canada Post I trust, but ebay....

@ mikesnickname
I agree. CC&C, Canada Post and The Coin shoppe as well as Gatewest coins, I trust, so I buy from them.

@Mikesnickname CC&C and CP are the exception, most dealers are guys working out of their basements selling on ebay.

@New1954 Very busy today, but still watching this with fascination and disbelief. I can understand the occasional mistake with dealers, but this is the head honcho messing up. In theory I bought two, with no cancellation notice yet. I hope everyone gets one. Maybe the Mint saw that some were loading up and finally decided to be fair. This is a good idea. I think everyone should have this beautiful coin at issue price. (unless someone wants to pay double for my second one... just kidding. ) I was told by a rep that someone bought 50 Gold Delta coins, and look what happened to that coin.

What they should do is make 3 coins with the same design. One platinum plated silver, one gold plated silver, and one silver. These should be issued to MC members according to their tier, and should be free. For those that are platinum level 2 and 3, they should get all 3 coins in a wooden presentation box. If I received a package in the mail to find said coin, unexpectedly, as a reward for my loyalty, I would feel like the mint actually appreciated my business. When instead, you have to stay up until midnight waiting for the website to update, sit on hold until someone can give you a solid answer, or pay a mark up from dealers or ebay, this exclusive coin really loses its appeal.

@CC-Ottawa. I urge you to place another order through the web if you really want it. My rep left me a voice message this afternoon and I couldn't check it until I am home at night. He told me what happened was the Mint scanned through all the orders and cancelled those placed for MC member below Platinum Plus level. My rep asked me to place an order myself if I can get it through the web when it become available at mid-night (which is now). Because from his perspective this coin is essentially sold out (they ran out of their allotment).
