Sold an item on ebay. Guy hasn't paid me. Wrote on my description payment due in 72 hours. What do I do now? Cancel the transaction? I sent him a payment reminder yesterday.

Wait another 24 hours, and then file a nonpayment case against him.

Yeh, go the Non-paying Bidder route through ebay's Resolution Center.
That will get your seller's fees back AND prevent the buyer from giving you negative feedback.

Canceling will NOT accomplish that AND may result in you also getting a Defect on your account..

if you use buy-it-now they must pay immediately. That is the drawback of auctions of having to wait for payment.

You can write whatever you want, 72 hours, 1 hour, 15 minutes. ebay's policy is 4 days. Sit tight.

Does the buyers feedback as far as activity look good. You can also check to see how many items they are bidding on. Sometimes buyers go on binges.

Take a chill break. Sometimes real world events interfere.

72 hours is quite a tight deadline. I don't know about US banks, but Norwegian ones sometimes hold payment for 72 hours before executing. For example: if I transfer something at 12:01 on a Friday afternoon, it won't be processed before Monday at noon (12:00), and then it may take yet another day and sometimes two before it shows up at the receiving account. This is very frustrating, especially when I count on getting my salary, for example. And mind you, we're talking about purely digital transactions in 2016 here.

Give him a bit of time to react to the reminder, then go for 'non paying bidder' on ebay.

Sit tight at least 24 hours after reminder, probably 48. You have plenty of time to work this out. ebay tracks this sort of thing closely.

ebay states you can file a non payment claim as soon as 48 hrs. From ebay's unpaid item policy. "If a buyer doesn't pay within 2 days, a seller can open an unpaid item case in the Resolution Center." Personally 3 days is right.
