Sold a $27 coin, and tracking shows coin delivered. Buyer sends me a message and says the coin wasn't delivered, and knows tracking shows delivery, and that they know it's USPSs' fault and they don't blame me. Buyer states they will leave positive feedback, but generic positive feedback because they didn't get the coin, so they can't leave great feedback. I checked the feedback, and they actually left decent feedback. What should I do? Now I feel a bit responsible. Partial refund? Full refund? No refund? Thoughts. My thought is a full refund. Why would they lie?

edit: I did reply to them and said how sorry I was that this happened, and asked them if there might be a chance the package might still turn up, or maybe they can do a little detective work with their mail carrier.

Argh!

What a shame. I feel bad for you and your customer.

I just saw something on the news recently about some mail carrier dumping what appeared to be a whole day's worth of mail into a ditch in the woods. He got caught on camera doing it and I suppose a lot of the mail got recovered but it makes you wonder how long this went on.

It's just sad.

Ed , I have many times received mail that wasn't mine . It's remotely possible a neighbor or someone else received your coin by accident . Especially if tracking said delivered . If this is what happened ,hopefully they will give it back to your customer or back to mailman stating wrong address .

Good point Tony.

Ed - you may want to wait a bit or suggest to the buyer that perhaps the coin went to a neighbor. Depending on how badly you want to maintain your rating, you may offer a partial/full refund at your discretion.

Buddy - worked for an overnight carrier in college. I used to see the drivers stuff the line with boxes upon return to make it look like they cleared the deck. They always got caught. Made me wonder though; why go through the trouble of unloading a truck that would be loaded back up in a few hours. Numbers games.

There is a house on the next street from me, that has the same house number. We always get each other's packages and letters.

Takes a couple more days to get my packages once it is delivered wrong.

I hope it works out for the best Ed ...

Have them file a case through ebay. In instances like this they tend to issue a refund to the buyer out of their own pocket.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping the package might eventually find it's way to the customer. I'll wait a little while before making any decision. I like the idea of opening a case anyway with ebay. That might be a tough go since they left positive feedback, but it's worth a shot.

I once had a package that was marked as "delivered" but I never received it. We have a community mailbox in my neighborhood and it turns out the carrier put the package in the wrong slot. It took a couple of days but then sorted itself out.

Just got this message from buyer, "Just to let you know, the package finally arrived today. My regular carrier found it and she said it had been delivered to the same house number two streets over from me."

I used to get mail for the same address..but, wrong street!(513 Mission Avenue, and, I got 513 5th Street's mail)...I called to Annex, and, got a supervisor...he said.."Hang on a minute..your carrier just walked in"....a few seconds later, back on the line, the supervisor said.."Mr. G..."..."Yes sir ", I replied.."Your carrier says you don't get much mail anyway"...........I swear..TRUE Story....I replied.."well, what little mail I DO get, can we try and get it to the proper address?!"
Sad, but true, I learned a LONG time ago on multiple coin sales on ebay to photograph the entire order next to the shipping label, as so many people were scamming the oldest trick in the book with.."I got the packet, but, only 2 of 6 coins in it"!

It is nice that the buyer gave you an update.

After many years of having the same mailman, this year, he took a new route and we have had a variety of subs. Consequently, we've had the worst mail service in the almost 30 years I've lived here.

My mother-in-law lives across the street. A phone I'd ordered for my husband was delivered to her house. Same last name. Guess the mail sub didn't realize you go by the house number, not just the name.

Another day a neighbor on the block received my phone bill.

Last week, I received a package that belonged to the next door neighbor. He had gone to post office asking about it because he received an email saying it had been delivered. The post office had a picture of the mailman scanning the package in front of my house. The neighbor told them he would stop at my house and get it, which he did. So, the mailman knew to scan the package but not how to get it to the right address!

Hoping for a steady mail carrier soon!

Wow, everyone's dream. How'd they get the pic?

I'm not quite sure, but I am thinking that the hand held scanner takes a photo along with scanning the package. Modern day technology has turned us all into "Big Brother".
