So I bought a 1964 P&D mint set from a seller on ebay a few weeks ago. It was delivered to me on 10/27 (ahead of schedule). Coins look great, and into my lock box they went, where they still are. And then today I get the following message from the seller: Quote:I have reported you to ebay for tampering and pilfering of the mint set you received from me and returning the sets missing all the silver coins. It is obvious that you cut a corner of the Denver mint set to retrieve the coins and ripped opened the Philadelphia set at the half to pilfer those coins. I have no idea what this guy is talking about because I have not returned the coins, have no intention of returning them, have not even begun to initiate a return. The sets are still sitting intact in my safe box. I guess I'm stumped because this is the first time anything like this has happened to me on ebay. I've been on ebay for 14 years and never a bad experience or less than positive feedback, and certainly never reported for anything, let alone something as ludicrous as this. Do I have any recourse? It sounds like he has the wrong buyer? Look at his sold items, did he sell multiple sets of what you purchased? He may have clicked the wrong buyer to report. I would message him back and ask what the heck he is talking about. you have the proof (coins in hand) ask him to give you the tracking number if he is sure it is you and from there you can check where it originated from. I would not worry too much, if you get nowhere with the seller a call into ebay would be the next step. What does the sellers feedbacks look like? any red flags?

I would message him back and state, "Are you sure you sent your message to the correct buyer. I have not returned anything."
Let us know what he stated.

That's what I did. We'll just wait and see I guess. His feedback looks great. I didn't see any 64 mint sets listed in his recent feedback history though, but that doesn't say much if a buyer hasn't left feedback for it.

He has you confused with another buyer.
It is easy to do when you sell multiples of the same item to different buyers.
I agree with what others have said. Send him an email and wait and see what happens.
Please keep us posted.

Well you could take a shot of the sets you got from him with a picture of a newspaper dated with today's date if it comes to that. That would be enough to convince him or ebay but I think he will figure out he goofed! If he has the tracking number, it would be obvious, one only has to plug it into the usps site to see the origination ect. Sounds like he is going to owe you a big apology. Let us know what happens.

I would just write my name and today's date on a piece of paper next to the mint set to show him you still have yours intact. A case of mistaken identity for sure!

Well, that's got to be upsetting. I've never sold anything on ebay. How easy would it be to make such a mistake? How hard would it be for someone else to mess with your messages? Regardless, you haven't requested a refund. Keep an eye on your account to see if ebay or paypal gives you a refund.

Reminds of the story about an ebay buyer who was scooping up OGP silver U.S. State Quarter proof sets and cracking the edges, putting in clad proofs and returning them to the seller. As noted, this seller thought you were someone else.

I checked his feedback a little more closely. There was another buyer recently that he left feedback for on a 1962 P&D set where the buyer claimed that coins were missing from the set. I suspect that the buyer returned them, and upon inspection of the mint packaging, he intended to report that buyer...but ended up reporting me instead. Or at the very least he reported that buyer but sent his message to me.

Well at the very least he owes you an apology and to set the record straight if in fact he reported Your ID to ebay in error. I would think he would get back to you ASAP when he realizes the mistake and makes it right. Very frustrating on your end, I can only imagine if it happened to me, I would be furious. Keep us posted.

Yeah, wrong buyer. He'll probably apologize once he realizes the mistake. Happened to me once.

I got a response and apology from him. It was as I suspected. He reported the buyer of the 62 mint set but messaged me by mistake. All is good now.
