Gary Burke Rest in Peace United States 3730 Posts	Posted 11/21/2005 01:33 am I don't have time tonight to get out a dictionary and look up "numismatist." However, to me, the term has always meant "One who collects and studies coins and other types of currency." Depends on whom you ask. Some think that you must be a member of some collecting organization to be considered serious. Others, feel as if you must be a recognized person, to be serious. Like everything else, opinions are free, but do not require any thought to be uttered. Personally, I believe that to be a "numismatist", only YOU can decide if you are or are not. The English language is just amazing. So many words to say the same thing. It does make us all sound so much more impressive to call ourselves numismatologists. One might think we all had PHD's.
