Just wanting a few peoples opinions
A few months ago I started getting into collecting star notes now all of mine are modern the majority of them being from 2013; a few 2009 and a 2006. In your opinion is it worth collecting these or should they just be spent and it be better to try to find and collect older star notes?

It kind of depends on your motivation, doesn't it? Are you collecting because you just like the idea or are you looking to flipping them sometime in the future?
If you don't need to spend them, refer to first thought. Eventually they will be vintage. If you're serious about the collection and don't mind spending some money, go for older ones. Different varieties: silver certs, national notes... do they have starts?

You have the modern, inexpensive, star notes, now reach back and get earlier issues.
Store them properly in archival holders.

I collect for the future (not for me but for my grandchildren). The oldest series star that I have found in circulation to date is 1963B.

Quote: national notes... do they have starts? National bank notes do not have star notes. Series 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Notes, which were printed on the same paper stock as national bank notes, do have star notes. -MV

I wish I could find some! In the last 10 years I have only found 3.

If by "collecting modern star notes" you mean collecting modern star notes from circulation, then 99% of the circulated star notes you find may never be worth more than face value. I compare collecting modern star notes from circulation to collecting State Quarters from circulation. I'm not saying it's not fun or challenging, I'm saying that no one knows the future of collecting paper money, but my bet would be that common, circulated, modern star notes may never be worth more than they are today. On the other hand, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while. Meaning, several collectors that post here do find rare, uncirculated modern star notes that are worth more than face value. They search uncirculated straps and bundles and cash drawers etc. and find real jewels. Once again, no one knows where paper money collecting is headed, and I would encourage anyone interested to pursue the hobby as a collector first and an investor second. Collect what makes you happy.

Well said, Stever, as always.
Most modern-era FRN $1 stars are worth very little, especially if circulated. But there are some tough exceptions for certain districts in certain series. Do your homework!

For me .
If I find CU star $1.00 or $2.00 notes at face ...or near face .. I put them away. I do have some bigger denomination, but I am not as quick to put them away.
As stated there are some modern Stars that have good value. I have found a $2.00 1976 "I" star ...but still looking for my second one.

Modern Star Notes....I kinda equate to State Quarters. I do not expect them to be worth more than face value but I still saved a set of them...just because. If they interest you save them because you like them.

I keep all star notes regardless of condition for the possibility of a flip in the future... But if anything, they make a fun emergency fund if the need should arise...

I have been putting together a set of $1 FRNs from every series (and BEP facility where applicable), including a star from each. A fun set, not too expensive to put together even in CU. You can get the stars (depending on run/district) from 1963 - 2013 for anywhere from $2-$20 on ebay. And as Coinfrog and SteveInTampa will vouch for, the ones that are $20 you can probably get graded 66 or better for just a few dollars more. I think that is right around 38 stars. Just an option for you. But if you're going to put a collection or moderns together I'd definitely recommend CU for some value.

At first I just going by series .. now as I find them I am trying to switch to star notes .. or adding them to the same page. The example above is what I started with .. switching to stars Barr stars .. are a little better One of the better 1976 FRN $2.00 "I" start
