Every time gold rises or falls more than $10 I start looking at the news expecting to see something dramatic has occurred to explain the change, but rarely do I see something obvious. Today the price of gold is down $20, yet I don't see anything overt to explain it. Anyone else ever deal with this? Know of a good site that analyzes market conditions?

That Bloomberg page only tracks the US Dollar, doesn't say much about gold's movement. However, the two can be related, to a point -- check out http://www.kitco.com/kitco-gold-index.html for a breakdown on how much of gold's price change is due to the dollar itself, versus other market activity (albeit not very specifically).

For example, today's "down 24.40" is, they claim, a 7.80 decrease due to the stronger dollar, and 16.40 due to "predominant sellers" (whatever that means).

"The Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association has informed its members that they are hearing from certain circles of a potential ban on gold imports," Arora said, adding that social media in Asia is "abuzz with these rumors."
