The Barber looks nice.

Hmm, the Seated half seems iffy. I will have to check out the discussion.

Gave all my coins in the type set an acetone bath and thoroughly cleaned my capital plastics holder. Shied away from using canned air. Procedures:

1. Washed capital plastics holder with warm water and soap. Wiped clean with lint free microfiber cloth from auto supply store. Air dried for 2 hrs. Wiped again with dry lint free cloth.

2. Removed coins from holder and rested them on clean lint free microfiber cloth. Prepared two baths, one acetone and one tap water filtered with activated charcoal. Made a pair of tongs with chopsticks from Chinese food and rubberbands.

3. Acetone was 100% acetone nail polish remover from CVS pharmacy. Had 2 ingredients listed: acetone and denatonium benzoate, an additive that deters people from drinking acetone, antifreeze and other toxic chemicals.

4. Swirled coins for 5-10 seconds and rested the coin in bath for 1-2 minutes with each side facing up. Rinsed in filtered water and patted coins dry several times. Hardest part was ensuring that the coin was completely dry so that water spots wouldn't appear later. Air-dried for 2 hours after patting dry several times with dry lint free microfiber towels.

5. Replaced coins in holder and reattached screws.

Nice set you're putting together. I have yet to start anything like this but am considering a Statehood Quarter set to start.

I noticed the Steelie in the LMC slot and am glad it was brought up. A+ for free will and I agree it offers a better contrast in this set.

I have a BU SBA $1 that I was willing to donate but it cannot replace your daughter's contribution.

Keep the updates coming!

Acquired a lovely unchopped Trade dollar. I love the new coin and for 30 seconds I considered replacing my chopped Trade dollar, currently in my set for this one. But I love my chopped example more. It has way more character than the new acquisition, although I am still struck by its clean, mark and abrasion-free surfaces. A mighty feat for such a large and heavy coin destined to travel long distances. New acquisition is below.

Thoughts on my decision?

Looks good.

I may be in the minority, but I do not like chop marks, at least not for my type set. I have a clean Trade dollar for 7070, which I just got last month.

However, chopped dollars have grown on me and I think they make a good addition to a counterstamp set.

Just my opinion.

People have different tastes. For me it took a little while to "find myself" and recognize what I liked. People will have different opinions, and invariably they will color your thoughts. But at the end of the day you have to decide for yourself who you are and what you like. We are lucky to live in a free society and I intend to enjoy my freedom by exercising it. Glad to hear that you are too.

Took down another hole in my type set before year-end. Sorted through thousands of not-so-attractive coins to choose this one. I will be happy to not look at another dark toned 3-cent silver trime, where the design is completely obscured, for the rest of my life. I have never seen so many unattractive coins in any other US series.

Beautiful trime numismatic_student! They definitely seem to have faced a lot in their past circulation life, so it's hard to find a nice one!
