Picked up 2012 State Quarter , odd has "s" mint mark yet not a proof.
planchet looks very goldish in color possible manganese ?

Starting in 2012, the US Mint struck circulation finish quarters with an S Mint mark. These coins were only available for purchase from the US Mint in 40 coin rolls or 100 coin bags.

From your description the coin in question has toned---state quarters onward stored in paper rolls acquire a yellowish hue.

It is possible that someone cherrypicked the best examples from one of the sources I listed above and dumped the rest for face value.

And if it is a 2012 is is an America The Beautiful State Park quarter following the theme of the 50 State Quarters series.

And an S (proof or uncirculated) is a great find in circulation.
