Hello, I'm assuming this is what they call a blank planchet? My father in law had a box of coins and these Asian coins were in there and this blank coin was among them.

I have no knowledge of Asian coins, I have searched the internet to see if I could find something similar to what I have but no such luck. I hope that someone would be able to tell me what this is. Thank you.

It might help if you provide the weight and diameter there are many countries and varieties of square hole coins.

bottimurillo90, I agree with coffeyce that having more info might be useful. At first glance, this looks like a washer that has had a square hole broached in it rather than a coin. Specific to holed Chinese cash, I don't see how a blank flan could have been produced as these were cast not struck.

Some very late Chinese cash were struck, but the hole is *much* larger than on this coin.

I'm hazarding to guess that it's a washer of some sort.

I agree with the previous posters. The edges of the square hole don't look right for this being a coin.
Rest in Peace

Looks like a Hobnail type washer, square nails of late 1800's maybe. Seen something similar in old family barn where they'd attach burlap bags to dust the livestock?

I don't think that's a coin.

In my opinion I think that is actually a coin that had been worn smooth with time. Asian coins of that era were cast. I have one that is shaped similarly and I think yours might be the same except the text got worn off completely.

It does seem to have remnants of a raised rim that a washer would not have. Just my Two Cents...

Another couple cents...The square hole has a raised border of metal on the south side considering the lighting. I don't know what that specifically means though.

Punching a hole in a metal disk is likely to leave a raised edge. My opinion isn't worth much in this case, but it doesn't look like a coin to me. Square holes are common in Chinese "cash" coins, but the size of the hole relative to the disk doesn't look right to be a coin. It looks like a mass produced construction material.

Okay, this has probably been on my mind more than it should be but I found a link that seems to provide the answer:

Hope this helps!
