Let's say you bought a roll of UNC 1964 Washington quarters on ebay for $129 and thought that was a pretty good deal. They arrive quickly via USPS Priority Mail and you open the box. Inside are TWO rolls of UNC 1964 Washington quarters! The seller is an ebay PowerSeller who doesn't normally handle coins. What would you do?

Well the right thing would be to contact the seller. Just incase he sold the other roll to someone else and can't produce cause he sent that roll to whoever with the order they purchased. Hence possibly causing negative feedback and a major loss in sales etc etc etc

Mail the seller informing him of the mistake. Ask him to pay for the return postage and insurance. The second roll does not truly belong to you. Perhaps he will sell it to you at a discount as a sort of reward for your honesty! Mike

The strange thing about this auction was the seller stating he had two rolls of 20 coins each up for sale. He pictured two full 40 coin rolls and that's what he sent. Apparently because he doesn't normally deal in coins, and didn't count them, he assumed the two rolls equaled 40 coins instead of 80. Very bizarre - My sister thought that since he stated and pictured 2 rolls for sale, and that's what he sent, it's his error for not counting them. I wondered what the seller would do if I contacted him and said I got 80 coins!?

I have gotten wrong things before. The seller has let me keep it And sent me my corect listing as well. However the price of this item is a bit more then the coin I had.
Doing the right thing starts with e-mailing the seller. He is at fault so he would need to pay for shipping.

that really bothers me,if you were the seller would you want the buyer to be like that? This is a power seller who probably sent the wrong package to the wrong buyer, he probably has a few boxes each day that goes out and its easy to get mixed up even if there is only 2 boxes unless you mark them right after sealing the package. He is probably getting emailed by another buyer saying they only got one when they bought two. So the right thing to do in this case is email the seller and inform him of the mistake

Honest Buyer here again - I e-mailed the seller today and let him know I received 80 UNC 1964 Washington quarters instead of 40. Haven't heard back from him yet. I'll post a link after his response. All his current auctions are non-coin and his recent history is all non-coin. He sent me two rolls thinking they were 20 to a roll. I've never had anything like this happen and felt I should say something. With current melt value at over $260 for these rolls, I wanted to level with him. These are all UNC to boot and some look MS. I'd value the rolls at over $150 each.

bherring1964, You did the right thing and you should sleep well tonight. BTW ... UNC (uncirculated) and MS (Mint State) mean basically the same thing. MS is usually used with a number (60~70) and UNC with an adjective (Choice, GEM). Both refer to coins that have not been circulated.

My most unusual ebay purchase has been resolved. After contacting the seller and letting him know there were 80 quarters in this lot, we agreed an extra $100 would be fair. I sent him $100 via PayPal today and he offered free S&H on anything I buy from him in the future. Here's the original listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...200207221692
