Here is my 2nd Greek problem coin. Diameter is 16mm. Thought this one may be from Megaris with Apollo on the obverse/Tripod on the reverse but I'm just not convinced. The lettering doesn't tally somehow. Hopefully someone out there will know. Great obverse but the other side lets it down somewhat.
can you read some letters and what is the size ? there is a lot of possibilities : Megara , Byzantium or kings as Antiochus II or III .I think also it is the head of Apollo.albert
Kroton (Brittium) produced many coins with tripods (one currently in a thread for authentication) and their sixth stater looks remarkably similar to this coin (head of Apollo with short hair, tripod) So I would wager its in that ballpark.
I was thinking of this one http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sg/sg0477.html but obviously it is in silver so not a good match. Dwayne might have got it because you can see traces of the legends at each side too seem to match up.
I am always impressed how good everyone is here...
