Hello all, I pick up a 2000 South Carolina State Quarter that was in a frame with a tree from an online auction (not the bay). The site did not mention the coin being silver but when it arrived it clearly was. What I am wondering if there is a site or other reference that shows any coins yhat the US Mint made that where only made for dignitaries. I cannot see any similar sets like this. One of the first things that popped into my head when I was going to purchase this was the Ike dollar found a few years ago that was given during its release. Any help would be appreciated.

The mint started making silver proof coin and clad proof coins in 1992 from San Francisco for the Dimes, Quarters and Halves. So if the coin is an 'S' mint, then it might be a Silver coin. (Or a clad non silver quarter) Same for the State Quarter series. But if it is a 'P' or 'D' mint coin and it is silver on the edge, it is probably one of the clad coins that was plated that they sell on HSN (Home-Shopping-Network)for the 50 State Quarter Series. These are only worth a quarter because the plating replaces the clad surface. Removing them from collectables to the true coin collector.

It appears to be an S so it could be a silver proof. Without some other documentation though all you have is a silver proof that someone has put into a holder. Does the case say anything on it?

Hello, the case does not have anything on it. I purchased it from a Goodwill auction and they are usually very accurate on their info of items. The only reasin I purchased it was because the look of it. And when I seen it, the Ike dollar from '71 that was possibly given to Nixon popped into my head. I know better record keeping is done these days then those days. I know they had the VIP strike SACs during 2000, but maybe I'm being "led by the carrot".

It looks to me like a SC quarter was broken out of its silver proof set and put in an air tite and placed in a fancy box. I dont think there is any added value over what the actual quarter is worth.
