KurtS: To be fair, I don't know about Littleton specifically. You left out of your quote the part where I say that 'if Littleton is like other companys that sell coins in fancy wrappers'... or something to that effect.
My parents and grandparents, that didn't know squat about coins, used to buy me coins from some rip off company all the time as gifts. What do you say when your Mom buys you expensive coin sets for B'days and X-mas, and you know they are junk?!? I let family members get ripped off for years, buying me coins for gifts... I know they thought they were spending big money on me and meant VERY well. Finally though, I had to tell them. It was hard finding a face saving way to do so.
All that stuff they bought for me was fancy wood display boxes and such, with heavily cleaned and even polished coins in them.
Sounds like Littleton might actually be one step above that.

This is even more unbelievable than the first find. You have some luck, can't wait for the next one.

I'm sorry, but before I joined, I lurked for several months. And I had to laugh about how you guys fell over posts with "great finds". They were almost always from people with less than 50 posts. How come THEY get so lucky? The one I REALLY remember happened probably about 6 months ago. A supposed bank teller joins the forum. Says he was able to buy lots and lots (I don't remember the number, but it was like $200 face value) of Franklin and Walker halves from the bank. His supervisor had said that he could buy them at 2x face. Now, he was coming on this forum to find out how much they were worth. I saw RED, RED, RED flags all over the place. 1. I am not an auditor but a Software support gal who supports audit software, so I see a lot of this. There is NO WAY IN HECK that a bank manager is going to OK a teller to buy Frnaklin halves at 2x face. HELLO! HELLO! Well, maybe it happened, but that manager doesn't have a job. 2. So the guy buys them at 2x face. He apparently doesn't know anything about them. So he comes on this forum to supposedly "find out what they're worth". Hmmmmm. If you REALLY don't know what something is worth, would YOU pay 2x what it's worth and then bring it to the Internet when you get home? OK, yes, you might do that for a $10 purchase, but WAY over a hundred dollars? I LOVE, LOVE hearing about finds and people who run into things. But I HATE, HATE it when they lie to me and others. There isn't a question of jealousy, but some people just like to play with you. Having said that, I went to the Goodwill store today. I was on the lookout for a bike. I need to lose a little weight. I bought one for $20.38. Came back and looked it up on the Internet. Turns out it is a HARO Vector which sold for over $600 in it's day (about 10 years ago). The tires are brand new - Kenda 26" x 1.95" ---> the two of them cost $24 before shipping, so I'm already ahead about $3.62! Those are the DEALS that I like! EDITED - I got the darned size of the bike tires wrong!

ratio411, I do know what you mean...there are too many scam-artists ripping of well-intentioned people of their money. Coin vault and HSN to name a few (seriously way overpriced or simply junk for the most part). So perhaps Littleton is better because I hear their standards are high (but again overpriced )

This forum reminds me of another real place. Bar!
People from all walks of life get together for one thing: Alcohol.
Here is Coins.
People show up and then disappear. But if someone show up for 50 times in the same bar, we may know a little something about that person.
So I wish Bigcartwheels show up with pics. But it not, what the heck.

At this rate, the next big find will be a 1856 Flying Eagle in MS65 for $1.00.

Moderation: Be nice, guys. Stranger things have happened. Just don't think we're unaware of certain patterns and/or habits; this isn't our first time around the block.

I would have to say that if you watch antique road show this type of thing can happen on rare occasions. In equivalent to finding a valuable antique in someones garbage. I just have trouble seeing lightning striking twice as the second post that bobby posted shows. As far as Littleton is concerned my favorite thing I saw in one of there recent ads is "A complete set of reprocessed steel war pennies" Reprocessed Do they mean Cleaned!

Reprocessed means replated in regards to steel cents. You can tell if you have a replated cent by looking at the rims- an original example of a 1943 will have exposed steel on the rim.

You should visit your banks vault and take some pics. Many people are wanting to see these pics including me...

The thing about this forum, that offends me, is the preface that the number of posts a person has makes them more credible as a person. Hey I could sit on the net all day and respond to every post, and accumulate thousands of postings, this makes me no more credible in my mind than if I had just posted once
