bigcart,

It's just human nature at work here. Two incredible stories of a huge amount of quality coinage and you have posted the one pic of a single coin. If you were my brother and I'd known you all my life I would still want to see some pics. A single acquisition of this type happens rarely in a lifetime and you have two in three months. I've been at this for 45 years and haven't come close. Now how bout going to the bank and getting a couple of pics of the spread and shut us all up.

With the internet anyone can be anyone and anyone can say anything. It shouldn't surprise that people doubt your story and want pictures.

What makes you think that single pic was his? Obverse in holder, Reverse is not. Angle and lighting of each pic is different and look at the differing names of the JPG file too. And a promise to follow up with more which does not happen.

Bigcartwheel,
Here are the facts:
- An ex-coin guy (not some widow who knows nothing about coins)knowingly hands you over $165,000 (Greysheet) worth of coins for a mere 1,000 bucks.
And you expect us all to believe this with no proof ?
And what the heck are you posting here... I'd sell that thing and take a trip to the Carribean or buy myself a Ferrari.

I used to be into cars and you'd have newbs going into the boards saying that their Honda Civic with just an exhaust and intake can run a 12 sec quarter mile, but not a single one has ever produced a legit time slip or video of their achievements. Whatever floats your boat.

The thing about this forum, that offends me, is the preface that the number of posts a person has makes them more credible as a person. Hey I could sit on the net all day and respond to every post, and accumulate thousands of postings, this makes me no more credible in my mind than if I had just posted once

Sir, if you had 10,000 postings on this site I would find you no more believable.
If you want to have some real fun, try out your stories on the pcgs boards.

Regardless of photos of some coins it makes little difference as proof of such a sale. I too find it difficult to understand why someone that has worked in a coin collecting company would be able to purchase coins worth well over $100,000 for so little he could sell them for $1,000. Just how much did he make? Did he purchase them all for maybe $500? Or even less? If a person just found this in a garage/yard sale from say some elderly people I could start to think it's a real story. But as already noted why not just take them to a coin show and sell for possibly $100,000. Why not a coin store? I know there are a lot of weird people out there but for a person with coin experience to sell something worth so much for so little is very strange indeed.
Photos of such a collection would prove nothing. I've been collecting for well over 60 years and have some fantastic coins, or so I think. I have a completed collection of Lincolns in mostly MS something or other. This set includes ALL that have slots in the Whitman Album such as 22plain, 09S VDB, 14D, 55Double, etc. I could post a similar story and say I purchased that set at a garage sale for $10 and show photos of them. So what. Just not true but would sound great, maybe if that is something I wanted to do. I could but to old to take photos of all that stuff.

I have to ask this...if you were not planning on sharing pics of your find, what was your purpose in posting it here? It is perfectly understandable that our members (any educated collector, in fact) would have doubts about the legitimacy of your post about this find.

From my point of view as Forum Mom, I have to say that I am a little wary. Your posts of your big finds could be construed as a setup for scam sales. While I am not saying that is what you are doing, your posts could be construed that way. The lack of pictures or supporting evidence of these finds does not lend credibility to your post.

Please understand that I am the first person to give everyone the benefit of a doubt, but there is a lot to doubt here.

or you could just take someone else's pictures off the internet, click "save file as", and post them here claiming them yours. Pictures don't prove anything. What if I told you I am the secret owner of a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel? The Hawn Speciman to be exact. I bought it for a mere $3,000,000 from some Lady who said she wa sa dealer, owned some shop called "Legend Numismatics". And then, to top it off, two months later I picked up an 1804 Trade dollar, UNC, for a little less than $50. Would a picture make this story more believable?

Alright, maybe my tale is a little more extreme but the point remains the same. Its kind of like going to the store and buying a big trophy, then inviting some people over and saying "hey look, I won first place in a swing dance competetion." very odd....

Maybe it's an April Fools joke :)

And after examining his photos from his first find, I too noticed that the obverse and reverse don't even match ! They're in different holders !

I think a lot of us are a bit skeptical, but really also want to see pictures because the set sounds so nice.

I doubt many of us have seen a set like that, or known anyone who has finished/acquired one.

Of course you don't have to go to the bank and into your deposit box to snap some photos, but if you did I think a lot of people here would really appreciate it.
