Finally a day off! Still selling off the collection I inherited on ebay, have a 1921 S Buffalo nickel going off in a couple of hours, people are going nuts on the bids! Why? Is there something I missed? I do not understand why one coin goes for next to nothing when I think it will do well, and then a nickel goes crazy?

Welcome to the forum!

The 1921-S is a key date for the series.

From what I've read, only 1.5 million 1921-S were minted, making it one of the scarcer dates.

1921-S is a semi-key date for the series, scarce in all grades and like many San Francisco buffalo's from the 20's, usually not a very good strike. Such coins usually lead to a bit of a frenzy on E-Bay if you don't set a higher opening bid.
