Came across this large date 70s penny tonight in a bank roll. I would like to solicit the learned opinion of the members here as to what this could be?
Thanks

Looks like somebody was hungry!. Yea PMD for sure. Look at the coin edge, that same curve is what a clip looks like. By placing an edge of one coin on the other, you can see.

I was just trying to upload pix of one I just found tonite, but can seem to get this cheepy tablet to cooperate, just have to wait for new laptop to get here.

PMD, looks like someone took a file to the coin. Like crazy said, clipped planchets occur when the strip of metal is stamped too close to the hole left by a prior stamp.

Thanks fella's. I was going to put it in a flip for display in my album. Now I'm just going to "flip" it into the copper cent jar!

Look hard enough and you'll find them. When I was roll searching I found a clip in about every 2000 copper cents, if I remember correctly. They were generally small and would be hard to identify if you didn't know what to look for.

Probably PSD...but all clips or incomplete planchets are not always the shape of the diameter of the coins..there are certainly different types of "clipped" or incomplete planchets..don't just focus on a "curved clip" by any means...there are books and google that absolutely prove that!

This is just 1 example that I uploaded on an earlier post...from a book on error coins by Alan Herbert...no mention of a 'mickey mouse clip" though...I guess ignorance really is bliss...

I'm torn on this one. It looks good, but I'm not sure if it is one or not. Coop might chime in

Not a clip. No tapered rim. No blakesley effect (weakness in rim opposite of clip). Looks like PMD to me.
