Seems to me that July is a long ways off for a pre-order. The RCM uses the Day-Month-Year format for dates on their web site. So, "07-03-2107" equates to March 7, 2017.

That sounds more reasonable. Will have to order while I still have free shipping.

Kind of expensive for circulation coins. You are paying $35 for less than $10 worth of circulation coins.

Quote: Kind of expensive for circulation coins. You are paying $35 for less than $10 worth of circulation coins. Yea - it is. It is 3.9 times face value. But the classic 2017 set is worse at $24.95. It works out to be 6.4 times face value. [4.1 and 6.7 times if you include GST; gets worse if you have to pay shipping]. These things are not priced near face value to entice new collectors into the hobby, they are just gouging long-time collectors who want no gaps in their albums/collections.

Punman, good catch about lack of 50c piece in both variations. Imo, this is serious "minus" for the set. @MoneyPenney: Look on the pricing like this: For any RCM coloured or GITD CuNi coin we pay CAD 30 + tax. Here we have 2 such coins, their difference from NCLT items is only the mintage. So I think, the pricing inline with usual RCM offerings. Lack of 50c coin - another way of mint to grab more money (all the excuses, that here only circulation coins are silly).

Lack of a 50 cent piece is disappointing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the mintages reach the hundreds of thousands on this. The 1999 sets for example are reported at 1.5M.
It wouldn't surprise me either and it would be a good thing if they do. The more they sell, the greater chance of generating future interest in coin collecting. **** As for the price, if $34.95 seems an expensive price for an uncirculated set of 12 coins,, they probably shouldn't be reading a NCLT forum. LOL! .

The Mint is calling this a circulation coin set. From their website Quote: 2017 Canada 150 Circulation 12-Coin Collection Who are we to call them NCLT? If you submit these coins for grading, say to ICCS for example, which if any will not come back slabbed with a straight MS designation indicating circulation coin? Will the NBU designation be revived for the traditional coins in this set? These coins won't circulate and are therefore collector specific strikes albeit of lower quality than previous NBU strikes. The coloured coins may yet be issued for circulation, as mentioned earlier in this thread and elsewhere on this forum, how will they be graded, and at what point do they become NBU or straight MS circulation coins?

Good eye DBM, the "exclusively struck" description of the 12 coin set I think is what you're referring to. So it seems the set is not the typical circulated coins packaged up into an Uncirculated Set. Interesting to know what that's about, appears contradictory. 2017 Uncirculated Set - mintage 75,000 NOT TO BE PLACED IN CIRCULATION! Yours is a limited opportunity to collect these classic designs issued in 2017, since the Royal Canadian Mint will not be placing them into circulation. - See more at: http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/2017....WJXc1JFfOhA2017 Canada 150 Circulation 12-Coin Collection - mintage "while supplies last" These coins will not enter circulation— they were struck exclusively for commemorative sets like this unique display card! - See more at: http://www.mint.ca/store/coins/2017....WJXchZFfOhAEdit correct mintage of 2017 Uncirculated Sets is 75,000, not 60,000

I'll be ordering at least two sets for the following reasons: Circulation & classic coins in one set Colourized and GITD coin Reasonable price Canada 150 logo on packaging For $10 more than the classic set, I think these will sell quite well. None of the regular finish circulation coins are going to be special just because of some fancy wording in the description. High speed presses I don't think the 50 cent coin needs to be in either set as this would add another two coins and increase the cost further. So far we've only seen a proof version of the Canada 150 logo. No doubt demand for the colourized coins will likely translate into more varieties, special edition sets, rolls and various packaging.

My understanding was the MS/PR/SP/PL was all about finish/planchette/quality, not their intended use. Which, if I understand correctly, is why all base sets after 2010 are considered MS, not PL, even though the packaged set is not meant for circulation.

That's my understanding as well. Which is why I wonder about RCMs "exclusively struck" description. This is a question I'm sure will be posed on their website.

I am a little lost here. The bold text leaves me to believe there will be no coins issued for circulation this year.
