I am a little lost here. The bold text leaves me to believe there will be no coins issued for circulation this year.
My quote is in regards to the Collector Sets sold by RCM. Otherwise RCM does not sell circuisted coin (aside from possibly at their 3 mint stores, can't speak to that.). Circulation coin is distributed through the Cdn banking system at face value, just the same as in the US, if that's where you reside. Rather than the tradional 2017 coinage, this spring the 150th anniversary designs will be released. As happens each year, it may take awhile before they trickle into our pockets.

Quote: The bold text leaves me to believe there will be no coins issued for circulation this year The mintage on the classic set was increased to 75,000 and these are the coins that won't be in circulation. Still not sure why other than for pure profit there needs to be multiple sets of uncirculated coins.

So this means 75,000 coins of each classic denomination via the classic sets. But what about the classic coins in the Canada 150 set? What will those classic coins mintage be? And how about the half dollars? Will they be issued in rolls again this year? If so, could this mean the half will have a higher mintage than the classic coins this year?

Mintage can only be determined st the end of 2017 and the year had only just begun. Nobody knows how many other collector sets RCM has up their sleeve, they don't tell us in advance. But this s RCMs year to capitalize (aka profit) on Canada's 150th birthday. I don't expect it matters what the mintage will be, it will be very high.....much like in 1967, the 2017 coins won't be scarce even years and years into the future to 2067 when many younger collectors now have become grandparents.

I'm thinking about the commemorative sets of quarters in card folders for 1992,1999 and 2000. Those can be had now for just over face value - these sets now that the RCM is putting out will likely have the same fate.

I guess it's just a question if you want to wait years to complete your collection at near face value or pay a little now and get instant gratification of completing your set now.

Even if there is only 75000 sets that's plenty to go around.

You can always buy now, it does not ship for a month, cancel/return later if better comes or you complete set from circulation. I see this as a convenient way to get MS coins, though it is a bit of a premium.

Now that I've had time to think about it more I am thinking I might pass on this and just wait for the circulation coins to come out. The price is pretty steep for what your getting. I am sure I can find some sets from rolls on ebay for much cheaper.

It is still the early days of the 150th coin releases. Who knows what else is coming? I'm sure by the end of 2017 there will lots of coin fatigue.

For those wondering, it appears that the GITD toonie and colourized quarter will be in circulation...I also suspect it will be hard to find as everyone will be saving it.
